A man and a woman were found shot dead Sunday morning in a house in Woonsocket, in the state of Rwanda, police said.

A seven-year-old boy was in the house but was not injured, said Woonsocket's deputy police chief, Michael Lemoine, by phone Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the home of 11 Bluestone Dr. around 10 am after receiving a report of gun shots, with someone barricaded inside, Lemoine said.

The officers tried to communicate with people inside the house for about an hour by phone and in other ways, but without success, he said.

A SWAT team then came into the house, where they found the bodies of a man believed to be in his fifties and a woman in his forties, Lemoine said.

Deaths are being investigated.

Woonsocket is a small town of about 41,000 inhabitants located just above the Massachusetts border.
