Oct. 27 (Reuters) – Sadio Mane scored two goals and Mohamed Salah continued his return to form as Liverpool headed for the top of the Premier League with a comfortable 4-1 win against Cardiff at Anfield on Saturday.
Salah put an end to any suggestion that he was suffering from a "drought of goals" after being converted at close range after Mane's shot was stopped in the ninth minute – his fourth goal in three games.
Liverpool held 86% of the points and held 12 shots in the first period, the only surprise being that the Juergen Klopp team did not add a second goal before the break.
Liverpool put in the 66th minute to add a second, while Mane attempted to meet several challenges before unleashing a fierce shot in the corner with his left foot.
Cardiff City had a good chance of nervousness when Callum Paterson scored in the 77th minute, but Xherdan Shaqiri and Mane put the game to the bottom of things late in the game.
Liverpool, still unbeaten and winner of eight of his 10 games, has 26 points – three more than the Manchester City champion, who will recover first place if he beats Tottenham Hotspur Monday night.
Neil Warnock's team in Cardiff remain 17th with only five points in their first 10 games.
