The sheriff says that the man then took off in the cornfield and has not been seen since. The thick brush makes hunting difficult.
About 100 officers are on the scene, accompanied by air support and K-9.
Neighboring homes have been evacuated while all others are advised to stay indoors, keep the doors closed and their eyes open.
