EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – We learned the popular pizza and sandwich chain of Massachusetts, Papa Gino's Inc., has abruptly shut down many of its sites.
Eyewitness News has called and visited several Papa Gino and Angelo locations in our area as a result of information provided by employees and customers who found them closed Sunday morning.
When you arrive at Papa Gino's on Reservoir Avenue in Cranston, a sign stating that it is reading is now saved: "This site is now closed. Thank you for your sponsorship. & # 39;
We found a similar scene at Angelo on Highland Avenue in Seekonk.
After calling the places closed, we were greeted several times by the following messages: "thank you for calling Papa Gino, this restaurant is now closed permanently", and "thank you for calling D'Angelo, this restaurant is now permanently closed. "
Both messages encourage customers to visit the website of the pizzeria and sandwich shop for a list of all locations.
Despite several telephone and e-mail attempts to contact the company's offices, the company did not learn anything about these closures.
Papa Gino's website has been updated to reflect only the open locations on its list. If you do not see your favorite location in the list, it has been closed.
It is unclear how many employees are affected by Sunday closures, or if the company is working to place them in other stores.
Eyewitness News will continue to provide updates both online and live on this story in development.
