BOSTON (AP) – Brad Marchand and Joakim Nordstrom scored 36 seconds into the second period and Jaroslav Halak stopped 25 shots to help the Boston Bruins beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 on Thursday night.

David Pastrnak scored his fourth goal of the season and Patrice Bergeron added an empty net at the last minute. Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the season for the Oilers and Cam Talbot made 28 saves.

The Oilers were playing their second game of the season after their 5-2 loss to New Jersey on Saturday in Sweden.

Edmonton hit first when McDavid entered Halak alone and beat him in 3:43.

Pastrnak created the tie by scoring a power-play goal at 9:20, and Marchand gave his first lead to Boston at 2:37 pm while Matt Grzelcyk had another power play. Nordstrom scored a new goal for Boston 36 seconds later, thanks to David Krejci.

Edmonton missed two chances in the third. Boston captain, Zdeno Chara, pushed the puck back as she slid down the goal line behind Halak while Edmonton's Ty Rattie raised her arms, thinking that ### ############################################################################### | Edmonton scored. The game continued and the replays showed that the puck did not cross.

A few minutes later, the Oilers were in short supply when Tobias Rieder escaped against Halak, who escaped for a stop with his left tack to retain a two-goal lead.

Notes: Teams will be back next Thursday in Edmonton. Bergeron had a goal and an aid, and Grzelcyk had two helpers. … Halak took his first steps home as a member of the Bruins. … Pastrnak has 98 career goals. … The match was stopped for a few minutes at the end of the second period when a knock knocked the glass behind the Edmonton net.
