West Ham led 1-0 at King Power Stadium thanks to a close effort from Fabian Balbuena after half an hour.
However, just eight minutes later, the task of the visitors became much more difficult when Noble received the order of his choice from the referee Michael Oliver.
Noble later joined Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and grabbed the Nigerian high on the shin.
Oliver did not hesitate to brandish the red card although Noble protested his innocence.
And Hartson, who commented on the game for BT Sport, was convinced that the right decision had been made.
"I'm waiting to see this again, the foot was high but there was no tackle in the game," said Hartson.
"You see that here, Mark Noble goes to the ground, oh it's a red card.
"I have no defense for Mark Noble, it's a red card.
"It's high, his guys are showing, it's a nasty tackle against Ndidi.
"It's pretty innocuous where we are, we are very high in the stands.
"But when you see that and you slow down, I have no cases there. Mark Noble, you have to go my son, I'm sorry.
"It's a good call (from Oliver) and you know what, Mark Noble does not need to take up this challenge at all.
"All his experience, today's captain, an excellent captain for West Ham over the years.
"He dropped and left his team now. Yes, they are in front, but it will give Leicester a big boost with the extra man.
"It's a red card, it's a wall of stones, it's high, it's late and it's a red card.
"It's that simple, absolutely ridiculous Mark Noble, the captain, a player of all his experience."
