Mars has blue-sand dunes / Boing Boing

Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter broke this giant sand dune of Mars that has a turquoise blue hue in the augmented color.

Via NASA:

Sand dunes often accumulate in crater soils. In this region of Lyot Crater, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) of NASA shows a field of classic barchanic dunes.

Just south of the dune group Barchan is a large dune with a more complex structure. This particular dune, appearing as turquoise blue in enhanced color, is made of finer material and / or has a different composition from the surrounding.

What a show to see in person it would be!
