WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. (WAVY / AP) – A rocket carrying a parachute system designed to land spacecraft on Mars was launched on Friday morning from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility.
This is the third test of this system, which NASA said is designed for spacecraft. Tea rocket successfully launched at 9:30 a.m.

The parachute deployed following the launch, and a rescue boat was sent to retrieve the rocket.
Friday's launch is expected to be visible from much of the eastern side of Virginia, and on up to Delaware and New Jersey.
