Marshfield police warn of active shooter

MARSHFIELD – A woman was shot in the car on Monday afternoon, according to authorities, causing a major human hunt.

The gunman, a man, fled the scene on foot and from 8 pm was not apprehended, authorities said. The woman, who is believed to be in her thirties or forties, was taken to South Shore Hospital. His condition was not released.

The shooting took place on Main Street, near ABC Equipment Co., around 5:30 pm. The man and the woman were in the same car at the time of the shooting, the authorities said.

Police launched an active shooting alert, urging residents to stay away from the area and stay indoors.

State police and a SWAT team participate in the search of the shooter. At around 8:00 pm, at least three helicopters circled the area and the police escorted students from Marshfield High School a few miles from the scene of the shooting.
