Waves of up to 6 meters struck homes in the Canary Islands while extreme weather conditions forced dozens of people to evacuate.

Local media reported the evacuation of 65 apartments as waves crashed in Mesa del Mar, Tenerife, tearing off the balustrades of the apartment balconies. The mayor of the locality, Alvaro Davila, was quoted as saying that no one had been hurt.

Thirty-nine people were also evacuated from the town of Garachico on Saturday night in the middle of the storm, local media said.

Meanwhile, bad weather continued to hit Spain, with the national weather agency reporting Monday that Valencia and Alicante were on red alert, the highest level of risk due to heavy rains.

Mallorca has been placed on orange alert, designating a serious risk, and the rest of the Balearic Islands and Murcia, in southern Spain, have received the third level yellow alert, at risk.
