Matt Hardy Announces Apparent WWE Retreat

After several weeks of teasing that something big was imminent, Matt Hardy apparently announced his retirement from professional wrestling.

Late on Saturday night, Hardy posted a short YouTube video on his social media feed announcing the end of his career in wrestling. He said in the video that WWE had allowed him to make all his appearances, but the show Saturday in Corpus Christi, Texas, marked his last match.

Hardy talked about how you can never ever say, but for now, you may not see "Broken" Matt Hardy in a WWE ring anymore. The person who was filming asked what was next, what Hardy said: "I have two young children and a woman, it's time for me to go home."

In the description of the YouTube video, Hardy also wrote:

"Thanks for letting me live my dream for 26 years, fight fans. I do not want it to be like that, but it's time to go home. It's time to go home and be a father. It's time to go home and be a husband. I have done a lot more than I would have imagined. Thank you for making this amazing trip with me, ladies and gentlemen. I love you all."

You can watch the video below.

The video of the retreat comes at a strange time as Hardy and WWE pushed his involvement into a possible attack at Hell In A Cell Sunday, a day ago.

We will have to wait and see if this is real or if it is part of a larger scenario. Hardy has been a master of manipulation for years, so we did not miss him to create a kind of creative storyline with this announcement.

All that said, Hardy has been working as a backstage producer for several weeks and this seems like a natural transition for him if he wants to stay in business. Hardy returned to WWE in 2017 at WrestleMania 33 after several years with TNA Impact Wrestling and on the independent stage. His current contract with WWE continues until next March.
