A Louisiana mayor has banned his city's leisure programs from buying Nike products following an ad campaign featuring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn signed a note last week that says "[u]Under no circumstances may Nike clothing or equipment be "purchased for use or delivery" at any recreational facility in the city.
"Effective immediately, all purchases made by a rehab club operating in a Kenner Recreation Center to wear clothing, footwear, sports equipment and / or any sports product must be approved by the Director of Parks and Recreation or his / her representative".
WBRZ 2 reported the existence of the memo Saturday. The Mayor's office sent the document to the director of the Recreation and Leisure Department, Chad Pitfield, last Wednesday.
The Mayor's office did not immediately respond to an email sent Monday by Fox News.
The report came after Nike was criticized for putting Kaepernick as the face of the "Just Do It" campaign. "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything," reads the slogan of the campaign.
