McGrady, former NBA star, says Carmelo Anthony should retire

Tracy McGrady believes that Houston Rockets veteran Carmelo Anthony should retire.

The Rockets are apparently preparing to pass the 34-year-old striker after just 10 games.

McGrady, a seven-star and now NBA analyst for ESPN in the NBA, discussed Anthony's situation at the Jump Tuesday.

"Honestly, I think Melo should retire, really," said McGrady. "I do not want it to go through another situation like this, and people are just pouring negativity on this man's legacy.

"I really think, because it has not worked for the last two teams, go ahead, and you have a career in the Hall of Fame, go ahead, let yourself go."

Anthony was out of Houston for his third straight match – with what the team described as an illness – when he clashed with the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. He averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds during his time with the Rockets.

The Rockets finished last season with a record of 65-17 and advanced to the Western Conference finals, where they fell to the Golden State Warriors in seven games.

But they have not yet replicated this success either side of the season, since they hold a record of 5-7 on 12 occasions.

Anthony spent last season with the Oklahoma Thunder before being traded to the Hawks in mid-July in exchange for a package centered on Dennis Schroder. It was bought by Atlanta, then signed with the Rockets.

McGrady averaged 19.6 points per game and has played for six NBA teams over his 15-year career. He made seven star teams and won two scorer titles.

McGrady was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
