KATMAI NATIONAL PARK, Alaska (CBS4) – We have a winner, or rather the Katmai National Park and Reserve. They say that 409 Beadnose won their annual Fat Bear Week contest.
They oppose 12 of their most chubby brown bears during the one week competition. Every day, the bear with more tastes in his March Madness style match goes on to the next day.
The competition is very entertaining and educates the public on the process of allowing bears to gain as much weight as possible before hibernation.
"Bears have to eat for a year in six months to survive hibernation and 409 of them have excelled in this area. Voters felt that his glowing rolls were this year's most fabulous flab, "the park said on their Facebook page.
You can try to spot 409 on the park's bear cameras.
