Meet Mobilegirl, the producer behind the Chromat spring 2019 soundtrack

Chromat often uses Discwoman signatories or associates, such as Suzi Analogue and Shyboi in recent seasons, to mark their high-energy shows. Designer Becca McCharen-Tran is married to Christine McCharen-Tran, one of the co-founders of the Electronic Music Collective, and their fashion show yesterday continued to build on this well-established relationship: The 2019 Show for the "Saturation" Collection by Chromat.

When McCharen-Tran sent Mobilegirl the mood board for this season's collection, she was immediately motivated to work on it. "I'm very excited because there are so many connections to the water," she says, saying that she has always loved the sound of splashing and quiet squirts. "I mean, these are swimsuits, but in addition, part of this collection uses the wet fabric texture in particular," continues Mobilegirl. "It's such a beautiful texture, but never treated as such." It is precisely this incongruity that is at the heart of the conceptual foundations of this season. "Much of our inspiration has been the idea of recovering the experience of hiding under a giant T – shirt at a pool party (when you are too embarrassed to do anything). be seen in your bath) and make it a garment to wear proudly "says McCharen-Tran. Models paraded in t-shirts soaked in bright pink flattering swimsuits and t-shirts with the text "Sample Size" printed on them.

The soundtrack of Mobilegirl starts well with the sounds of water and splashing, she says, she bought a few in sample libraries, but also recorded in her sink, with audio clips from recently released movie. Eigth yearwhich provides an appropriate vocalization of some of the underlying themes of the collection. "My first piece has a recording of a creek covering almost all the arrangement, and the inspiration for this piece was the theme song of an aqueous cave in a video game," says she. In addition to these samples, she has also included some of her playful and entertaining reinterpretations such as Nicole Scherzinger's "Whatever U Like" and heavy bass moments, such as Objekt's "Agnes Demise".

While some parade soundtracks are opportunities for artists to engage in a completely different fashion from their own work, all the songs that Mobilegirl created yesterday are the ones she would play in her own series. "I usually have very few limits to what I play, as long as I can dance on it," says Mobilegirl. "The challenge is to make everything blend well, because I do not particularly care about keeping a groove, it's more of a sensation or energy with which I connect."

Mobilegirl has already toured with major fashion houses, but Chromat's brand image has been a hit with her since she took a look at their online store. "Chromat was probably the first label that convinced me that they work with diversified representation for the right reasons," she says. "They have the only online store I've seen so far that uses very different body types across the site without having a more distinct section size. I am slim and tall, so reviewing their catalog was the first time I discovered what it was like not to see your body type or other similar as the ideal picture all the time. This moment of scrolling in their store has made me believe that they will have an impact on the body image of many people in the long run.
