Miles makes his debut as head coach of the Kansas University football team.

After signing a $ 2,775,000 contract with Kansas on Friday, the former LSU coach was introduced as the Jayhawks' leader at 5 pm.

When asked if he still wanted to return to college sport, Miles answered absolutely.

"The further I got from him, the more I wanted him and I was ready to coach for life," Miles said. "10,000 hours is supposed to make you an expert and I'm getting closer to this 10,000th hour I've always wanted to train."

Miles said he had been rethinking his offensive strategy since leaving LSU, but he also discussed his approach with the Tigers.

"When we had passers-by, we threw the ball," Miles said. "When we had guys who could not throw the ball well, could not proceed under the fire of the action, we ran the football. … This really becomes the staff style that you have in the program. "

Kansas Sports Director Jeff Long said he chose Miles not only for his success on the field, but also for his ability to shape and develop athletes off the field.

"He's been successful on the field and, again, what's been lost is the success with student athletes, which he has done with young men," Long said. "… it's more than football and we all want to win.We all want to succeed.But what's behind it, it's the development of these young men."

Miles, 65, has a training record of 142 to 55 in 16 seasons and won the 2007 BCS National Championship at LSU.

Kansas has not beaten its record of wins since 2008 (8-5) and Long hopes Miles will be the catalyst to bring Kansas back to success in the mid-2000s when his former coach Mark Mangino 12-1 season and an Orange Bowl victory in 2007.

"I want to do a great job here," said Miles, when asked if it was a "springboard" for him.
