The Mega Millions jackpot for Friday's draw is $ 548 million – the third-largest jackpot in game history, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Lottery.
The jackpot is the largest Mega Million since December 17, 2013, when it reached $ 648 million. The prize was shared between two winners in California and Georgia, officials said.
"As this jackpot approaches record levels and the excitement around it wins, we remind people to keep the experience of playing the lottery by playing responsibly," said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery.
The Friday draw will take place at 11 pm and will be the 23rd draw since the jackpot was hit on July 24th.
The $ 543 million prize was shared by 11 colleagues in California, officials said.
The biggest Mega Millions jackpot ever won was $ 656 million, split between three winners in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland on March 30, 2012, officials said.
Each Mega Million ticket costs $ 2 and can be played in 44 states, as well as in Washington, DC and the US Virgin Islands. The deadline to purchase an eligible ticket for Friday's draw is 22:45. Friday, officials said.
The drawing results will be available on masslottery.com and on the Massachusetts State Lottery's Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages, officials said.
