Another royal baby is on the way.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are expecting a child in the spring, the Kensington Palace announced Monday.
The announcement comes five months after the royal couple married at Windsor Castle in England. Prince Harry, 34, is the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. Mrs. Markle, 37, is an American actress.
The couple landed in Sydney on Monday morning for a tour of Australia and the South Pacific. Mrs. Markle was photographed with purple schoolbags, which caused some people to speculate hours before the announcement that she might have tried to conceal the physical signs of a pregnancy.
Prince Harry said last year that the couple had plans to have a child soon. "Hope we are going to start a family in the near future" he told BBC News in November 2017, after they announced their engagement.
The child will be seventh from the throne, according to the BBC.
And he or she will probably produce a media show because royal babies tend to attract the attention of the whole world as few people can.
The last royal baby arrived this year, when Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to Prince Louis, her third child with Prince William, after Prince George, born in 2013; and Princess Charlotte, born in 2015.
The announcement took place Monday at the start of the couple's 16-day tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand. They are primarily in the region for the Invictus Games, a sporting event created by Harry in 2014 that begins Saturday to give sick and injured members and veterans the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports, including wheelchair basketball and volleyball. sitting.
The Duke and Duchess will also participate in dozens of other public events – 76 in all. They will visit a drought-ridden rural Australian town, travel to the Sydney Opera House to celebrate its 75th anniversary, caress a koala in a Sydney zoo and meet with native Australian leaders on Fraser Island, in a remote corner of northeastern Australia.
Given the excitement aroused by the baby, it will probably attract larger crowds than expected.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison was among many others at congratulate the couple on Twitter. "What a fantastic new thing!" He wrote. "Australia is delighted for you two."
Damien Cave contributed to the reports.
