Meghan Markle is still on social networks, if you know where to look

Monday morning, Kensington Palace ad Meghan Markle The first major solo venture since she became Duchess of Sussex: Meghan has designed and helped produce a charity cookbook, which "celebrates the power of cooking to bring people together". The book, entitled Together: Our Community Cookbook, which will be released September 20, presents more than 50 recipes of women affected by the fire of the Grenfell Tower in London. (All proceeds will go to the Hubb Community Kitchen.) The campaign also includes a social media component, while the Palace produces a video for Instagram's IGTV and promotes a special hashtag, "#CookTogether".

Curiously, the announcement was almost immediately followed by the social media posts of many of Meghan's celebrity friends, all of whom helped spread the word. This is the first time since the royal wedding that most of Meghan's celebrity friends have referred to the Duchess of Sussex or addressed her in any way whatsoever. Serena Williams-Who spent an afternoon with Meghan and Prince Harry on the polo field earlier this summer, before Wimbledon – posted a slideshow of three photos on the cookbook on his Instagram account. She wrote: "I called you Meghan (and I still do), but dear Duchess of Sussex, your first project 'Together', a cookbook of women from all cultures. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you. It's beautiful – diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy – there is so much love. Other "Friends of Meghan" and wedding participants – actresses Priyanka Chopra, Abigail Spencer, and Janina Gavankar, as well as stylist Jessica Mulroney– also shared cookbook publications, including personalized messages and links.

This is a great cause, and the more people buy the book, the better. And it seems that there is something a bit unprecedented here with the ad strategy. Meghan, who had an active social media presence before starting out with Harry, is a digital duchess so that Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Harry – who have never had social media platforms turned to the public as ordinary citizens – are not. It is easy to imagine that Meghan sends some group texts to her friends, with some suggestions for social copies and some cultures ready for Instagram. She gets how that stuff works. His famous friends can reach a wide range of fans, and Meghan, knowledgeable, knows that it is as well as potential buyers – who might not follow official royal accounts or regularly check out entertainment blogs – will find out. In a way, his celebrity team works as a street team, as friends and fans of a pop star share its content after a new release.

This announcement also highlights the persistent strangeness of Meghan, who does not have an account on social media (we'll keep saying it until the Palace hears us!), Because that does not really seem silly. able to share his thoughts on this type of projects and his projects with his own words, in a more conversational and casual way than on the official channels of the Palace. But until that happens, we can probably expect more from this kind of Instagramming to support its celebrity Markle Squad at regular intervals.
