Meghan Markle celebrated the launch of her charity cookbook on Thursday with her mother Doria Ragland and her husband, Prince Harry, at his side at Kensington Palace.
The Duchess of Sussex's mother made a surprise appearance at lunch on Markk's first solo project, Perk's Field, as a member of the royal family. This is the first time Markle's mother has been seen with her daughter since the royal wedding in May.
Ragland, who traveled to London from Los Angeles last week, introduced herself, saying, "Hello, I am Meg's mother," reported People.
Ragland also told Baroness Gail Rebuck, President of Penguin Random House, that she was "crazy" about Markle and the launch of "Together: Our Community Cookbook".
Markle and the women of Hubb Community Kitchen – the organization that inspired former actress "Suits" to write the book – came together to create a meal including chicken curry with coconut, eggplant masala and capatis.
The Duchess, wearing a black top with a pleated skirt and a bright blue coat, also delivered a speech at the event. She remembered feeling "immediately embraced by women in the kitchen" during her first move to London.
"Working on this project over the last nine months has been a huge job of love, I had just moved to London and felt so immediately welcomed by the women in the kitchen, your warmth, your kindness and in the city and see in this small room how multicultural it was, "she said.
"On a personal level, I am very proud to live in a city that can have so much diversity. There are 12 countries represented in this group of women – this is quite exceptional, "added Markle.
The book presents recipes of women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, which killed 72 people. Markle, who wrote the preface, had the idea of the charity book when she learned that the Hubb community kitchen was only open two days a week, for lack of funds. The cookbook aims to raise funds for victims of the deadly fire.
"I said in the preface that it's more than a cookbook and what I mean by that, is that the power of food is more than just meal, "Markle said Thursday. know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it and that's what we talk about in terms of gathering to really engage and talk and to be able to celebrate what connects us rather than what divides us.
Ragland also said that she "really feels at home" in London.
"I'm so happy to put my face on the recipes. I'll tell everyone, I met her [each of the cooks]! I'm going to do everything, I'm serious, "she told the women at the event.
"The power of women," said Ragland during the event. "We make things happen. We are curious, we say yes, we introduce ourselves. I am inspired.
