PRINCE Harry and the new bride Meghan will visit Melbourne next month on their trip to Australia.

New members of the royal family, whose fairytale wedding in May was seen by more than a billion viewers, will make their first official visit to Down Under to attend the Invictus Games in Sydney.

During their visit to Victoria on October 18th, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will meet with a representative group of youth and community groups who lead programs to empower people through sport.

Sixth on the throne and his American wife will also participate in a handful of official commitments focused on education, conservation and sustainable development programs.

The 16-day trip is the couple's first major overseas tour. The Australian side also includes six nights in Sydney, a visit to Dubbo, a drought-stricken area in NSW, and a night on World Heritage Fraser Island.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Monday night that he was looking forward to welcoming the couple.

"Their visit will be an opportunity to promote the incredible achievements of Invictus athletes from around the world and to showcase Australia's programs for promoting youth leadership, environmental and conservation efforts," he said.

"And this will include a visit to a Queen's Commonwealth Canopy dedication on Fraser Island," Morrison said.

The couple will also travel to New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga at the request of the UK Department of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

Kensington Palace announced some details of the trip last night, stating that its goal was youth leadership, the environment and conservation efforts. Precise details must still appear.

Veterans Affairs Minister Darren Chester said young members of the royal family captured the imagination of a new generation.

"Hopefully they will be able to experience several parts of our country and support the Invictus Games," he told reporters. Herald Sun.

"The Duke has a real passion for Invictus, and his presence in Australia will ensure that the Games and all competitors are exposed to a global audience."

Prince Harry, who served in the British Army in Afghanistan, created the Paralympic style games in 2014 to inspire wounded soldiers to recover.

The palace said that after a week in Australia, the couple would spend October 23-24 in Fiji, travel to Tonga on October 25 and return to Sydney on Oct. 26.

After the closing ceremony of Invictus on October 27, they will spend four days in New Zealand, where they will undoubtedly meet Premier Jacinda Ardern and her new baby, Neve Te Aroha.
