A challenge: to name a better-known set than Meghan Markle's gorgeous Givenchy wedding dress, already so entrenched in fashion history that it has its own Wikipedia page. Of course, you've probably studied all aspects of the dress now, four months after Markle and Prince Harry became the Duchess and Duke of Sussex. But here's a nice piece of news: the dress contained Meghan Markle's "something blue", and the duchess' choice could bring a little tear to your eyes.
As reported by the BBC, Markle revisited her wedding dress for a new ITV documentary titled Queen of the world, a two-part look at the queen and the future of the royal family to be released Sept. 25 at 9:15 pm The Duchess of Sussex revealed that her "something blue" was stitched inside the dress – but are you ready to say how cute this "something" is? Markle chose a piece of the blue dress that she wore for her first date with Prince Harry to take with her on their "magic day". Is somebody cutting onions here?
Another interesting fact about Markle's wedding look, created by Givenchy's Artistic Director, Claire Waight Keller: the bride did not see the set finished until the morning of her wedding. Specifically, Markle saw her wedding veil only the day she wore it to St. George's Chapel. Nerveracking!
You will remember that her silk tulle, a 16-foot sail, had a special meaning: People reports, it "included a hand-embroidered flower trim of each of the 53 Commonwealth countries in yarn and organza." In ITV's documentary, Markle explained, "I knew it would be a funny surprise for my husband, who did not know, and he was really on the right track to discover that I would make that choice for our day. together."
The Duchess continued, "And I think other family members have had a similar reaction, and a fair appreciation of the fact that we understand how important it is to us and the role we play."
Markle has clearly expressed her commitment to the Commonwealth since she joined the Royal Family. In fact, she took office even before marrying Prince Harry. In April of this year, Harry received the role of Commonwealth Youth Ambassador Time reports. At the Commonwealth Youth Forum, in his first speech after taking office, he announced that Markle would join him in saying that he was "extremely excited" to start working with Commonwealth youth. According to the BBC, she spoke to the young delegates of the forum and attended a reception on the empowerment of women.
The broadcaster reports that the couple will soon embark on a major Royal Commonwealth tour, traveling to Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji in October.
Want to see Markle's dress in person? He is about to be exhibited at Windsor Castle, in London, next to an identical copy of Prince Harry's household cavalry uniform. Wedding dresses will be held at the château from October 26 to January 6, 2019; after that, they will move to Edinburgh's Holyroodhouse Palace, where they will be available for viewing on June 14, 2019.
It seems that Markle herself also enjoyed seeing her wedding dress again for the ITV documentary. His answer to his whole Givenchy? "It's nice to see him again, it's beautiful."
