Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland, supports the launch of the cookbook

Doria Ragland, who lives in Los Angeles, was all smiles when she accompanied her daughter to the launch of the charity cookbook Together: Our Community Cookbook in Kensington Palace on Thursday.

The book, to which Meghan has lent her support as the first royal solo project, presents recipes of women affected by the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire in London last year.

The women had come together to cook in a communal kitchen in the months that followed and, as rumors began to spread, the Hubb community kitchen was born.

Speaking to charity members in a speech, Meghan said that working on the projects was "an extraordinary job of love."

"I said in the foreword that it's more than a cookbook," she said.

"And what I mean by that, is that the power of food is more than just the meal itself – that's the story behind it."

"When you get to know the story of the recipe, you get to know the person behind it.

"And that's what we're talking about in terms of closeness, engagement and discussion, and being able to celebrate what connects us rather than what divides us.

"What I believe is the philosophy of the whole."

For the event, Meghan has paired a royal blue coat by Smythe with a black pleated skirt by Misha Nonoo and a black top by Tuxe.

Her mother chose a conservative beige ensemble consisting of pants, a top and a scarf.

The cookbook has topped Amazon's bestseller list within days of being announced this week, though it has not been released yet.

During the event, Meghan served dishes with Hubb women while Harry was talking and laughing with Mrs. Ragland who was watching them with pride.

Speaking directly to Hubb's women, Meghan said she was "privileged" to know them.

"I had just moved to London and felt so immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen," she said.

"I'm excited to see the projects you will continue to do in your own community, the community at large, and how you will inspire people around the world by sharing your stories and recipes.

"I'm so proud of you."

The presence of Mrs. Ragland at such an important time for her daughter contrasts with her father Thomas Markle, who speaks openly and continues to cause Meghan's grief in media interviews in the United States.

This week, Markle said he had received "multiple death threats" from a violent ex-boyfriend of his friend Lori Davis.

Ragland's visit also fueled speculation that she plans to get closer to her daughter in the UK.

The former actress wrote the preface to the cookbook while writing; "I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen. it's a place where women can laugh, cry, cry and cook together.

"By combining cultural identities under one roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture and communion through food, crisis or joy –

"Thanks to this charitable initiative, the recipes will help the kitchen to flourish and preserve the spirit of global community."
