NBC host Megyn Kelly asked if the use of Blackface on Halloween was racist on her Tuesday show.
"But what's racist?" Said Kelly Tuesday morning. "You really have trouble if you are a white person who puts the blackface to Halloween or a black person who puts the whiteface."
"It was normal when I was a kid, as long as you dressed like a character," Kelly continued.
Kelly then discussed the decision of television personality Luann de Lesseps to dress up in Diana Ross with what appeared to be a darker makeup when creating "The Real Housewives of New York" earlier this year .
De Lesseps immediately drew criticism of his look, perceived by many as a blackface, and apologized.
"I was an impersonator for Halloween. I did not want to offend anyone by being Diana Ross for Halloween, it did not even get in the way … I did not worry about it at all, and suddenly It has become a thing, "Lesseps said at the time.
"People said it was racist and I do not know, I felt like, who does not like Diana Ross? She wanted to look like Diana Ross for a day. I do not know how that is become racist on Halloween, "Kelly said Tuesday.
Guest presenter Jacob Soboroff, a journalist for NBC News, replied that he had not seen Ross' impersonation of De Lesseps, but added: "… That seems pretty racist to me. "
Jenna Bush Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, also said that this impersonation seemed racist.
"I can not track the number of people who have committed offenses simply by being normal people," Kelly continued.

Kelly has sparked controversy for his opinions on the race before. In 2013, the presenter, Fox News, was criticized after declaring on TV that Santa and Jesus were both white.
