NAIROBI, Kenya – Melania Trump participated in feeding an elephant baby Friday while she was visiting a national park in Kenya to highlight conservation efforts.

The first American lady laughed at the sudden movement of a baby elephant who momentarily lost her footing. She fed two elephants raised in Nairobi National Park with formula and reached out to others, patting her back and caressing each other's ears.

Kenya is the third leg of its African tour, which began Tuesday in Ghana and continued in Malawi on Thursday. Her first visit to Africa is also her first long solo international trip as first lady.

A speedy safari was scheduled for later on Friday while Trump would learn more about the steps taken by the East African country to conserve elephants, rhinos and other wildlife.

She was also scheduled to visit an orphanage and attend a children's performance at the Nairobi National Theater.

Egypt will be the last leg of its continent-wide tour of child welfare, education, tourism and conservation.

His visit included promoting the work of the US Agency for International Development, whose president Donald Trump, who offers funds, has twice proposed to reduce by almost a third the expenses. Legislators have essentially ignored these demands.
