US rapper T.I posted a video to his Twitter on Saturday which depicts him sitting at the Presidential desk in the Oval Office, while a lookalike Melania Trump strips in front of him.
The video drew sharp criticism from Conservative commentators, with the First Lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, calling for people to boycott the rapper.
She said: “It is disrespectful and disgusting to portray her in this way simply because of politics.”
She also retweeted a post from Conservative commentator Jedediah Bila, who said: “This is disgusting treatment of a First Lady.
“Where are women’s groups on this one? Napping?
“Newsflash: Trump is our President and Melania is our First Lady.
“No amount of blatant, disturbing, celebrity-endorsed disrespect is going to change that.”
However, model Melanie Marden, who portrayed Melania Trump in the video, expressed her shock at the reaction to the video.
Speaking to Inside Edition, she said: “Somebody was going to hit me with their car.
“Somebody was going to take a baseball bat to me.
“Somebody wished me to get raped and then killed.”
Ms Marden stated she does not believe she degraded or insulted the First Lady in the video, and was not intending to make a political statement.
She said: “It was an opportunity for me to step right outside my comfort zone and play the first lady – yes, naked, which I’ve never done before.
“The first lady’s husband does a lot of bullying himself.
“So they’ve got some thick skin. If I was insulting her and degrading her, then it would be one thing, but I don’t think I was.”
The model said she wanted to be “brave” and “fearless” in taking on a role which required nudity, and admitted she is “proud” of herself.
She also sent a direct message to her critics, accusing them of having “deep wounds”.
She said: “I send love to all the people who called me names and made accusations or delivered hurtful insults.
“These are clearly deep wounds inside of you that have nothing to do with me.
“For that I am sad and wish you much healing.”
