Infertile men tend to be less well endowed, a study claims.

Their penises are around a third of an inch shorter when they are more likely than those of men without fertility.

Fertile men had an average length of 5.27in, with the infertile at 4.92in.

Study leader Dr. Austen Slade of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, said: "It may not be a striking difference but a clear statistical significance.

"It remains to be determined if there are different penile cut-offs that would predict more severe infertility."

He said a shorter penis could point factors linked to fertility.

But he added: "For now, with shorter breaks, we need to worry about fertility."

The correlation between penis size and fertility is far from confirmed

The study of 815 men going to a clinic in Denver, Colorado, US.

Prof. Sheena Lewis of Queen's University in Belfast said: "One thing that scares men is that size matters.

"To now say they have a smaller chance of becoming a father is not a good message."
