Flags fly Tuesday in Chicago as the city remembers the innocent victims killed during the shooting at Mercy Hospital.
Agent Samuel Jimenez was one of three people killed by an armed man, who also died, police said.
The 28-year-old officer who struck the firing line to save other people worked in the second police district of the city and joined the department in 2017. Tuesday, we paid tribute to him as a husband and father of three young children, as a commemorative sparrow hangs from his home.

On Monday evening, officers were standing at attention as an ambulance carrying his body went in procession to the pathologist's office.
Jimenez was shot by the shooter in the lobby of the Mercy Hospital. He was reacting to gunshots as he and his partner headed for another call.
The police were called to Mercy Hospital around 3:30 pm. Tamara O'Neal, emergency doctor, confronted her ex-fiancée with an armed man.
Team I identified the shooter as Juan Lopez, 32 years old. The couple's engagement was canceled in September.
Lopez killed O 'Neal on the parking lot, then ran to the hospital, continuing to shoot, killing a resident of the pharmacy going out of a lift that was dedicated to his business. She was identified as 25-year-old Dayna Less.
Lopez exchanged shots with Constable Jimenez and other agents while he showed up at the hospital. Jimenez was shot in the hall. A second officer was also hit, but the bullet hit his holster.
"The officers who responded today saved a lot of lives, because this guy was shooting at this poor woman who had just taken a lift, he had nothing to do with him and he was There is no doubt in my mind that all the officers who responded have saved a lot of lives because we simply do not know how much damage he was prepared to do, "said the Superintendent of the Chicago Police, Eddie Johnson.
The suspect was found inside the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. Police said that it was unclear how he had been shot.
Meanwhile, flags were dropped to half-staff on Tuesday at the 2nd police district.
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation has announced that it will give the family of Agent Jimenez a check for $ 60,000 to cover his expenses. The foundation also announced that she would bear the expenses related to the education of her children.
"DAYNA was a very special person"
The father of Dayna Less, a resident of the pharmacy, who was killed during the shooting, said that he did not want her to be remembered as a victim.
"Dayna was a very special person," said Brian Less. "She had unique gifts, she was smart, she was funny, she was kind, she was a good friend.
Dayna was a first year pharmacist working at Mercy.
After the shooting, she was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Aged 25, he was a graduate of Purdue University. She planned to return home on Tuesday in Indiana to spend Thanksgiving day with her family. Dayna Less was also engaged to get married next summer.
Dayna's father said she was suffering from a headache that had required several surgeries in adolescence.
"Dayna decided at the age of 16 that she had freely had her chance in life and that she was going to give her life freely to everyone," said Brian Less.
A DOCTOR, A PHARMACY RESIDANT KILLED IN A SHOOTING
The other victim, killed in the parking lot, according to the police, was Dr. Tamara O. Neal. Dr. O. Neal was an emergency physician at Mercy. One family member stated that she was engaged to the gunman for about a year, but that she had canceled the wedding in September.
"She was 38 years old and was entirely dedicated to her church," said Patrick Connor, president of Mercy Hospital's Emergency Department. "She has never worked on Sundays, she has directed her choir in her church and she has raised funds every year for underprivileged children from all school supplies."
While the shooting had taken place, several colleagues of the victims and patients were hidden, hidden where they could while the shooter was making his way inside. As the bullets flew into the hall, the pharmacy employees huddled behind a locked door.
The emergency room where the shooting took place and several other areas of the hospital remain closed on Tuesday morning.

Dayna Less, a 25-year-old drug resident, had just started her career and was planning her wedding next year. She was killed while she had just left the elevator to get to work.
All murdered for no reason while they were going to do their day.
In Chicago, more than 2,600 people have been victims of armed violence this year alone.
We need to take a close look at what is happening at home and in our communities. Fear and violence are an endless cycle that must be broken. It is well past time. We must act.
