Meteor illuminates the night sky through the Ozarks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – If you've witnessed a brilliant flash in the Ozark sky on Friday night, you're not alone. Several people say they saw the flash light and some even saw the object crash into the sky.

The National Weather Service of Springfield said one of its cooperative members witnessed the meteorite that crossed the sky at around 7:20 pm. before he finally broke up. Some witnesses say they also heard a loud explosion as they tore apart.

Calls to the KY3 newsroom came from near Springfield, Ozark, Eminence, Buffalo, Ava, Mountain Grove, West Plains and even north of Columbia and as far south as Camp and Mountain Home, in the northwest of l & # 39; Arkansas.

There are no reports of debris actually hitting the ground in this area.
