Gogoi became the editor of the newspaper's opinion page at 23 years old.
She writes about instances beginning in 1994, when Akbar tried to kiss her in his office. She says that Akbar had "suddenly jumped" to try to kiss her, while she was in her office for a review of her work. She also mentions the detail that has been consistent in the stories up to now, namely that "her (office) door was often closed". According to the report, Gogoi managed to escape another such advance in Mumbai a few months later.

Gogoi writes that the situation worsened after Akbar raped her in her hotel room in Jaipur, while she had gone to town to cover a story.
