Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar submitted his resignation from cabinet ten days after veteran journalist Priya Ramani accused him of sexual harassment and predatory behavior. Up to now, at least 12 women journalists have publicly reported having accused Akbar of sexual harassment. Akbar called the allegations unfounded.
Akbar, 67, is one of the most prominent figures since the wave of allegations of sexual misconduct made by women in the Indian entertainment and media industry according to which of many people qualify the late arrival of #MeToo's moment of India.
In his resignation, Akbar said: "Since I decided to seek justice in a personal court, I feel that it is appropriate to resign and challenge the false allegations that are made against me, also in a personal capacity. "
"I have therefore resigned from the position of Minister of State for External Affairs, and I am deeply grateful to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs, Smt Sushma Swaraj, for the occasion. that they have offered to serve my country, "he added.

Senior journalist Priya Ramani was the first woman to accuse Akbar of sexual harassment and predatory behavior. Akbar has filed a lawsuit against Ramani who will be heard tomorrow by a court in Delhi. More than 20 women journalists have promised to stand with Ramani and have expressed their willingness to testify in court.
Akbar is himself a former journalist. Ramani called Akbar a "talented predator". Akbar denied the accusations against him and described it as "political motivation".
Meanwhile, Ramani reacted to the resignation and said that as a woman she felt justified by this.
