PHILADELPHIA (AP) – If it had been the case for Zack Wheeler, he finished strong and – probably the most important – in good health.

Wheeler has launched seven solid runs for his 12th career win, which could be his last start of the season. Michael Conforto had six career points and the New York Mets beat Philadelphia Phillies 9-4 on Monday night.

Wheeler (12-7) allowed four runs and three hits to become the first pitcher of the Mets since Steve Trachsel in 2001 to record nine wins after the all-star game. Since the break, the right-hander is 9-1 with a 1.68 ERA in 11 starts.

"Probably the best baseball pitcher in the last 1½ months," said Mickey Callaway, Mets manager.

Callaway wants to be cautious with Wheeler and said that he would discuss with Mets management to find out if he's taking another start.

The right-hander is three times his career record, the 185 1/3 he launched in 2014 before the injuries stop his promising career. Wheeler did not launch at all in 2015 or 2016 after Tommy John's operation, and he was limited to 86 1/3 innings last season due to a stress reaction in his arm launcher.

"We want to make sure we take care of the player," Callaway said.

Wheeler is relieved to be so effective.

"The navigation has been fluid this year," he said.

When asked if he wanted to keep throwing, Wheeler said, "I always feel good. This is not my call.I will leave it to these guys."

Conforto, after a difficult start, feels as good. The Mets player already has 22 RBIs this month, giving him 75 points for the season.

"If I put the job and stay positive, I know that at some point it will happen," he said. "I have the impression of not looking too much.It took five months, but I finally understood it."

Conforto scored a single by two points in the fifth, a RBI double in the seventh and a three-point homer in the ninth for the Mets, who have won 7 of 11 and are 26-17 in their last 43 games. Conforto has 45 points since the break from the stars, the second in NL with Christian Yelich of Milwaukee.

"It's the Michael Conforto that everyone wants to see," Callaway said. "He's one of the best players in the league when he goes like that."

The Phillies, as a team, headed in the opposite direction.

J.P. Crawford had a triple triple for the Phillies, whose chances of playing in the playoffs were another blow. Philadelphia is 6 ½ from Atlanta's first place in the East of the Netherlands and five more games than the wild card. The Phillies lost 8 of 11.

Comforto's double in seventh place, Tommy Hunter (4-3), allowed the Mets to continue to master Philadelphia.

Wheeler did not give the slightest blow to Wilson Ramos' first single in the fifth inning that allowed second baseman Jeff McNeil to dive into the right field. Wheeler then gave Nick Williams a single and hit Odubel Herrera with a shot to charge the bases. Crawford eliminated them with a triple right, and the sacrifice volley of Cesar Hernandez scored Crawford to tie him to 4.

The Mets took a 4-0 lead over Jake Arrieta. The double RBI of Austin Jackson in the second allowed New York to be on the board, and the Mets scored three more points in the fifth flight at the sacrifice of Amed Rosario and in the singles in the center of Conforto.

Arrieta was scored for four runs and nine hits in five innings.

LEAF OF PHILLIES

New York has won 7 of 11 against the Phillies this season and 44-20 in Philadelphia since 2012.
