By the time we were running out of things about Jacob DeGrom's amazing season, New York Ace Mets came out and broke an MLB record that some might have thought unbreakable.
With seven innings and two innings against the Marlins on Tuesday, deGrom posted his 26th straight start, allowing three points or less. According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, this has broken a record since 1910, 108 years after the debut of Leslie "King" Cole.

On April 10, the sequence continued at DeGrom's third start, where he allowed four unacceptable earned runs in six innings against the Marlins.

Here's the latest record of what was an unrealistic season for the 30-year-old: 1.71 ERA, 2.06 FIP, 195 throws, 239 strikeouts and 0.95 WHIP. This ERA mark is leading the MLB and is a half complete race better than that of Aaron Nola, 2.29, the second closest mark of the National League.
All this adds up to a campaign that has put the veteran of the Mets in a very compelling case of Cy Young, and history like that of DeGrom will only enhance his chances. And yet, the deGrom record for the season is not just 8-9. You probably know why.

Of course, we deal with the Mets
As incredible as DeGrom's numbers are and as entertaining as all his starts, the usual chorus of comic incapacity for Mets to win with him on the mound continues. This time, it is a very sad statistic surrounding the record series of deGrom: the Mets are from 9 to 17 during this historical period.
In comparison, the Cubs scored 18-7 in Cole's 1910 start series.
Despite a start that gave them at least six innings and three points or less in all but two starts, the Mets managed to post a .346 winning percentage in those 26 deGrom starts. Such a mark would be the lowest rate of the National League this season.
Honestly, this could be an even more breathtaking achievement than deGrom's personal record.
