MGM National Harbor Dealer Pleads Guilty of Fraud

A former card broker at MGM National Harbor Casino admitted to court on Tuesday to steal more than $ 1 million from the casino in a cheating system.

"I think it's probably the biggest incident we've seen in Maryland since the launch of the casino program in 2010," said Gordon Medenica, director of the Maryland Gaming Commission.

Ming Baccarat distributor Zhang was caught cheating on the security system, Medenica said.

For three months in 2017, Zhang cooperated with partners that he allowed to take pictures of card games that he would neglect to mix. They would win big bets on, and Zhang got a profit in return, according to the court documents.

Bettors can predict the outcome of baccarat hands "with near-perfect accuracy" if they know that they order cards in a deck, said US Attorney Assistant Erin Pulice.

MGM issued a statement saying that Zhang is no longer employed by MGM National Harbor and that the casino has cooperated with the investigators.

Zhang pled guilty to conspiracy to transfer stolen funds. In court, he told the judge that he felt guilty about it.

He is sentenced to five years in prison in January and US prosecutors want him to support the theft of more than a million dollars.

Zhang's co-conspirators could also be charged.
