Miami Dolphins cut Jordan Phillips, who reacts with glee

Jordan Phillips, who cost the Dolphins a second-round draft pick in 2015, is getting released by the Dolphins, a league source said Tuesday, two days after he threw a sideline tantrum — and his helmet — during the loss at New England.

Phillips reacted to the news with glee on social media.

“Free at last free at last,” he wrote. “No longer a Miami dolphin good luck to my brothers on the team I’ll miss y’all but I couldn’t be happier to be out of there”.

Phillips, a defensive tackle whom the Dolphins pictured as a fierce partner alongside Ndamukong Suh, never lived up to his billing. He finished his career in Miami with 26 starts in 48 games played, with 63 tackles (40 solo), 5.5 sacks, one interception and 11 passes defensed.

Although described at times by coach Adam Gase as “unblockable,” Phillips never could shake a reputation that followed him from the University of Oklahoma as a player who tended to take plays off.

His departure further weakens a defensive line that has lost end William Hayes for the season and has been without Andre Branch, another end.
