A man was arrested after accidentally crushing his truck in the windows of a Fox branch Wednesday morning in downtown Dallas, police said.
The building was partially evacuated for fear that the incident was the beginning of an attack.
"He jumped and started screaming," Fox 4 said on Twitter. Some staff members continued to report incidents from a safe location, with the incident occurring around 6:00 am, the station said.
Police arrived a few minutes later and took 34-year-old Michael Chadwick Fry to jail without incident, the Dallas police department said in a statement. Fry was evaluated in a hospital and then transported to Lew Sterrett Prison, police said, where he was charged with a criminal offense.
Fry's silver Dodge Ram hit the large windows of what appeared to be at least two separate collisions.
Nobody was hurt and Fry did not seem to directly target the reporters, police said.
But Fry, in a state of frenzy, told reporters at the prison that he feared for his life and wanted to draw attention to an incident in which a member shot and killed a man in 2012.
Deputy Sheriff of Denton County shot dead Roberto Carlos Hernandez after authorities said he had hit a patrol car during a roadside check. A man matching Fry's name and age was in the car and was arrested, according to a 2012 NBC article.
Fry threw tons of paper and flyers outside the station with reference to the shooting, hastily written on a print of a WFAA story. The leaflets described "high treason", "witchcraft" and conspiracies, and also suggested that police officers were paid, said WFAA.
"They were trying to kill me and they missed and they killed Roberto Carlos Hernandez," Fry told reporters. "Since I run for my life and do not know what to do."
Fry told reporters that he had mental health problems but that he had not worked out before being taken away by the police. The Denton Record-Chronicle reported that he had been detained 26 times in prison since 2003, citing records of incidents involving assault, arson and other crimes.
The photos show that the station building has a partially collapsed window with a hole wider than the truck. Another window is broken where the truck seems to have stopped.
The incident comes as accusations and political rhetoric of "false information" have sparked violence against journalists.
An armed man killed five journalists and wounded two others in the Annapolis City Gazette on June 28.
Then, in August, federal authorities accused a California man of uttering repeated threats of violence against the Boston Globe newspaper.
