Michael closes schools and roads in Lexington County

Tropical Storm Michael arrived in South Carolina, bringing strong gusts of wind and rain. Here's what you should know this Thursday morning in Lexington County.

Failures

At 7:40 am Thursday, SCE & G reported 7,615 power outages in Lexington County. The various power cooperatives in South Carolina reported 3,284 outages.

Road closures

The Terrace View walkway on Cofield Drive in western British Columbia was closed just before 5 am Thursday due to a flooded roadway. The Kleckley and Hummingbird Walks, in western Colombia, were also closed due to flooding shortly after 7 pm Thursday.

All roads were blocked on Thursday morning by a fallen tree at the intersection of I-26 and S.C. 90 westerly. A fallen tree has also been reported at I-26 and 90 ° S.C.

The left lane of I-77 and I-26 eastbound was closed due to a collision. No injuries were reported.

Winds up to 45 mph were recorded at Columbia Metropolitan Airport and South Congaree.

warnings

A flash flood warning is in effect until 9:15 for parts of Lexington County including Red Bank, Chapin, Irmo, Springdale, West Columbia and Cayce. The National Meteorological Service advises people living in flood areas to seek higher ground and to avoid driving or crossing floodwaters.

Tropical storm warnings are still in effect for all Midland counties.

The administrative offices of Lexington County are closed on Thursday. This includes:

  • Lexington County Museum
  • Lexington County Animal Services (administrative offices)
  • Red Bank Crossing County Facilities
  • County Auxiliary Administration Offices
  • Offices and Activities of the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Committee
  • Lexington County Judicial Center
  • Lexington County Magistrate Course
  • All school districts in Lexington County

All hearings for Thursday will be postponed. The Bail Court will operate from noon to one hour after the last scheduled hearing.

Streetside solid waste collection Thursday will be conducted on Friday. Friday's pickups will be completed on Saturday. Edmund's landfill and county recycling and collection centers are closed.
