Michael Strahan do not retreat from what he believes. the Hello America cohost talked about the controversy surrounding NFL athletes – especially Colin Kaepernick – and their choice to kneel to protest police brutality and racial inequalities during the national anthem.
"I know why [Kaepernick] Knelt did not disrespect the military or anyone in the military because I'm grateful, "said the 46-year-old former NFL star. Ellen Degeneres Monday, September 10, after talking about how his father was serving. "And when my father can look at me and tell me that he was not offended and understands, then how could I – who did not do this service – be offended?"
He added, "It's one of the things you can do in this country – can you protest – and [Kaepernick’s] protesting against the injustices that he sees happen. And I take my hat off because he really made sacrifices and put so many things online for others that he had no idea who they were. He never met them, did not know them and put his life and career at stake. "
When the 60-year-old talk show host asked Strahan when he had attended the event he was still playing today, he explained, "I think that I would have [kneeled]. I would have had a conversation with my dad, and on the basis of this conversation and conversations I had with him, I am sure I would have it.
Strahan noted that he "would also have been proactive in getting more organized because I think there needs to be more organization between the players and the owners."
The interview with Strahan comes just a week after Nike revealed that Colin Kaepernick was at the center of his "Just Do It" campaign for the brand's 30th anniversary.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, aged 30, was the first professional footballer to kneel in protest at the 2016 national anthem. Later protests by others President Donald Trump to call to fire them.
