ANN ARBOR, Mich. – An assistant coach of Michigan women's gymnastics resigned earlier this month, a few days after police said they found involved in sexual activities with a student drive.
Scott Vetere is one of the most decorated gymnasts in Michigan history. He and the 18-year-old woman were cited for indecent conduct in public for the alleged October 8 incident in a parking lot of an apartment complex in Ann Arbor. The university says Vetere resigned a week later.
The name of the woman involved, who was also cited for indecent or obscene conduct in public, corresponds to one of the names on the list of Michigan gymnastics players that Vetere helped coach, reported Dan Murphy. d & # 39; ESPN. The woman has not yet been brought to justice.
Sports Department spokesman Kurt Svoboda said employees could not have romantic relationships with students. Svoboda told the Detroit Free Press that the university had learned of Vetere's arrest on October 10 and had it suspended immediately.
Vetere, 39, could not be reached for comment on Wednesday. He was a member of the Michigan National Championship Team in 1999 and was 10 times the NCAA's best American player. In 2000, Vetere shared the award of the U-M male athlete of the year.
