The state of Ohio is in the top four of the US TODAY Sports College and is in the Big Ten Conference conference team standings: Michigan leads No. 4 after beating rival Michigan State, while the Buckeyes fall to No. 9 after an embarrassing defeat. loss to Purdue.

This is not the only change in this week's standings. Washington State takes the lead in the Pac-12 conference standings by climbing 16 places to 13th place after a solid home win over Oregon. Another Pac-12 team, in Utah, ranks 25th after being busy in Southern California.

This is also a good week for the teams of the group of five. Central Florida are in 5th place after extending their winning streak. Fresno State No. 16 continues to progress, though it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the September Bulldogs' loss to Minnesota. The Sun Belt State Appalachian Conference is ranked 24th and the state of Utah, now 6-1, ranks just behind the top 25 at 26th.

But the big story is that of Michigan, which now ranks first in the Big Ten team standings and seems extremely capable of leading the table from here to reaching the college football playoffs. The Wolverines are joined in the top four by No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Notre Dame. Remember that the only Michigan loss was won by the Irish in the first game of the season for both teams.
