The federal government will invest more than $ 50 million in Michigan to fight the opioid epidemic in the country. The money will be spread over two years and used for three purposes: prevention, treatment and recovery.
Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley is pleased to be able to use this money to strengthen the training of addiction physicians. This is because, he says, the treatment of addiction is an emerging field.
"As the number of addictions increases and the number of addictions increases, it becomes absolutely essential to train more doctors and provide training in addiction medicine," he says.
The money will also go to more recovery housing and increased use of support groups for people in treatment.
Michigan had previously received more than $ 30 million in federal funding to help reduce opioid use and dependence on these drugs.
