The top four of the college football playoff committee remained the same this week.

With Michigan (9-1, 7-0), last place for the playoffs was ranked fourth.

The Wolverines, whose only loss today is number 3, Notre Dame, have retained their place in the top four this week after an easy win at Rutgers on Saturday. The Wolverines complete their friendly match against Indiana before heading to No. 10 Ohio State in two weeks.

Part of the debate over the playoffs in recent weeks has centered on Michigan's standings ahead of Georgia, also a team to a fifth-place loss.

PCP Committee Chair Rob Mullens was questioned about this specifically on Tuesday night during a teleconference with reporters about why the Wolverines stay ahead of Georgia.

His answer: resume.

"Michigan has a very good resume, they have won nine games in a row, and the only loss is to the team ranked third on the board in the first game of the year," Mullens said. "They have wins at Northwestern, Michigan State and a dominant victory over Penn State, the No. 1 defense in the country.

"Strong resume."

The comparison between Michigan and Georgia may be a hot topic for the moment, although it does not have much to say in terms of direct comparisons at the end of the year. If Georgia wins and finishes the year 12-1, which would include a win over Alabama, who currently occupies first place in the standings for the title in front of the SEC, the Bulldogs would most likely have a place.

It goes without saying that, in the affirmation of the victory of Notre Dame and Clemson, a Michigan 12-1 Big Ten champion team, in the same scenario, would probably be compared to an Alabama team with a loss. for fourth place.

Still, the committee allowed the Wolverines to beat the Bulldogs this week, making Michigan the top-ranked team in the United States with just one loss.

"Obviously, Georgia's last three wins are extremely impressive," added Mullens. "Coupled with their only loss to a ranked SJM team, we see a very competitive team, a solid defense, and the offensive continues to progress, which is why the committee ranks fifth."
