Migrant Caravan Infected With Leprosy, Smallpox

Fox News host Charles Payne had a bit of a situation on his hands today when a guest of his asserted that the Central American migrant caravan is going to infect the U.S. with horrific diseases.

David Ward, a former ICE agent and regular guest on Fox, spoke to Payne about the news that the U.S. Military is sending troops down south to fortify the border. Ward claimed (without any evidence) that there is a “documented” presence of Africans and Middle Easterners within the caravan, and he also offered some thoughts on how the matter also presents a “public health issue.”

“We have these individuals coming from all over the world that have some of the most extreme medical care in the world. They are coming in with diseases such as smallpox and leprosy and T.B. that are going to infect our people in the United States.”

Payne didn’t push back on either the assertion .

Instead, he turned away from Ward to focus on a press conference from the Department of Homeland Security, and 50 minutes later, he issued a clarification of sorts for Ward’s remarks:

“Earlier in this hour, one of our guests said some of the people in the caravan may have diseases like leprosy and T.B. We have no way of independently confirming this. We wanted to clarify that point for you.”

A number Fox News hosts have commented in the last few days that the migrants might be diseased. This comes amid a recent trend of numerous conservative figures and Fox contributors fear mongering over the caravan with factually-questionable and often racially-charged rhetoric.
