New York Yankees third baseman, Miguel Andujar, could spend more time on the bench than initially expected after being injured at the shoulder rift on Sunday.
The 24-year-old slugger, second in the American League, underwent tests on the right shoulder before the opening game of the series on Monday. Before the game, he learned that he had a small tear of the labrum and that he would need treatment for a few weeks before walking on a baseball field.
According to ESPN, Andujar's injury was going to be treated conservatively and he was provisionally placed on a 10-day wounded list. However, officials now claim that he will likely miss the majority of April games and may even need a surgery to end the season.

Yankees, Aaron Boone, after his victory against the Detroit Tigers. , ESPN reports. "We'll know in a few weeks."
Andujar is injured by diving into third base during a pick-up attempt in Sunday's match against Baltimore.

Boone said that Andujar had shown no immediate sign that he had been injured after Sunday's dive.
"He stayed in the game … was able to make all his throws between the innings," he told ESPN.
It was during a pre-game training session that he noticed that Andujar was in pain – by choosing not to pick up the balls on the ground routine. Andujar later agreed to an MRI to see what was going on.
In the meantime, the field player and the infielder Tyler Wade have agreed to take Andujar's place in Monday's match.
Andujar, who made his professional debut in baseball in 2017, is a huge asset to the team. Last season, the 6-foot athlete and 215 pounds hit 27 homers, 47 doubles and 92 RBIs, according to Fox Sports.
