Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano was arrested early Sunday morning in the Dominican Republic following an incident that left a policeman with a broken leg.

Sano ran to the officer's foot during an incident outside a club in San Pedro de Macoris, according to the police report. It was found that Sano was driving a white truck without registration plates and was not wearing an appropriate ID.

"The Minnesota Twins have been informed of a situation recently involving Miguel Sano in the Dominican Republic," said team spokesman Dustin Morse in a statement. "The facts of the incident are not completely available at the moment, but the club is gathering as much information as possible."

Sano, 25, was released after promising to meet with the authorities on Monday, the Diario Libre website announced.

Sano was charged with sexual assault by a female photographer last December, but no charges were laid and Major League Baseball announced in March after completing an investigation that she would not discipline Sano.

His delayed spring training, while the investigation was over, and an April hamstring injury set the stage for Sano to experience the worst season of his career. He hit only 199 in 71 games and made a comeback to the miners to work his swing and lose weight.

Sano was a star player in 2017, when he hit .264 with 28 homers and 77 RBIs.
