Mike Ditka, the former NFL coach who drove the Chicago Bears to a Super Bowl championship in January 1986, was hospitalized in Florida earlier this week after suffering a heart attack, according to reports.

Ditka, who turned 79 in October, stayed in the hospital on Friday, but he would be fine, sources told FOX 32 in Chicago.

The coach had to go home in three or four days to begin rehabilitation, reported Chicago-based WGN-TV.

The former Sears coach from the Bears and New Orleans was playing golf on Wednesday and complained about not feeling well, reported the Chicago Sun-Times. He then entered a hospital in Naples, Florida, according to the report.

The paper reported that Ditka's medical problem was a "heart ache". He stated that he had a heart attack in 1988 while training the Bears and returned to work 11 days later.

According to the Sun-Times, Ditka had stopped consuming alcohol but it is still known that he smokes of cigar.

Ditka, a native of Pennsylvania, played college football at the University of Pittsburgh and then in the NFL for the Bears, Eagles and Cowboys before embarking on the coaching career.

Since he's retired from training, Ditka has been a broadcaster and has also worked as a pitchman on television.
