Mike Pence on "Face the Nation" says he's "confident" Brett Kavanaugh will win the Senate vote

Despite the many grids of the Democratic Senate at hearings confirming the appointment of the Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh This week, Vice President Mike Pence is confident that Kavanaugh has the votes to be confirmed and take up the high court.

In an interview with "Facing the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan, Mr. Pence said he hoped his decisive vote would not be needed in the Senate. "We'll see where we are," he said.

Kavanaugh was strongly favored to win the 51 votes needed to be confirmed by the Senate. But with only 51 Republicans in the upper house, Pence could be called in his constitutional capacity as Senate Speaker to vote decisively if a GOP member votes against Kavanaugh's nomination. The Judiciary Committee will likely vote on Kavanaugh's appointment next week, and the Senate vote is expected to take place before the start of the next Supreme Court term on October 1.

During four days of hearings, the Judiciary Committee of the Democratic Senate has denounced the lack of access to thousands of documents relating to Kavanaugh's long history in the Bush administration.

"I must tell you that despite the embarrassing presentation of many Senate Democrats in the Judiciary Committee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh has shown the intelligence, temperament, and judicial philosophy that I believe should be , elicit broad support for the US Senate "said. "And we are confident that Judge Brett Kavanaugh will very soon be Judge Brett Kavanaugh and take a seat on the Supreme Court."
