The President of the Democrat-Peasant-Worker Party (DFL) of Minnesota said the results of an investigation into allegations of domestic violence against a candidate of the Attorney General Keith EllisonKeith Maurice Ellison, Democrat Party President Minnesota: "I do not believe", accuser Keith Ellison Countdown to elections: two weeks mid-term | Hollywood donors flood Dems with money | Trump camp to spend more than halfway M | Biden joins the Florida Dems | What to watch in the debate over the Georgian government Poll: Ellison down 7 points from his GOP opponent during the race at Minnesota AG PLUS make it impossible for him to believe the accuser of Ellison.

DFL President Ken Martin told a reporter Thursday that he "believed in our investigation," according to Fox News.

"I do not believe it," Martin added, referring to Karen Monahan, Ellison's ex-girlfriend who accused the Minnesota Congressman of abuse. A lawyer hired by state democrats to examine Monaham's allegations of domestic violence and concludes that these were "unfounded".

"I support Karen in her allegations and I think an investigation is under way," Martin said. "We conducted an independent external investigation and this investigation showed that we could not support her allegations of spousal abuse, and so I do not believe it – I believe in our investigation."

Martin's statements come as Ellison has been criticized by the Republican Party for his allegation in the #MeToo movement, which has seen other prominent male characters being ousted as a result of sexual or physical misconduct.

Ellison remains deputy chairman of the National Democratic Committee (DNC), although he resigned from his seat in the House earlier this year in order to become the next Minnesota Attorney General.

According to a Star Tribune / MPR News Minnesota poll, he is currently 7 points behind his Republican opponent, Doug Wardlow, while a similar poll last month showed him with a five point advantage.
