Missing Wisconsin girl Jayme Closs was at home when parents were killed: police officers

Police believe that Jayme Closs – the Wisconsin teenager who disappeared this week after her parents were shot dead inside their home – was still at the residence when the murders took place.

Authorities said they determined the situation by analyzing the evidence gathered at the scene and recalling the 911 phone number that was passed early Monday morning, when James and Denise Closs were found dead and Jayme was missing.

"From our investigation to date, we believe that Jayme was at home at the time of the homicides and that she is still in danger," said Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald , at a press conference held Wednesday afternoon.

"His parents died as a result of a gunshot wound, which is why we say this is a homicide," Fitzgerald said. "No firearms were found on the scene and we believe that Jayme was at home, based on the evidence presented in our case – some dating back to this 911 call."

According to Fitzgerald, Barron County police officers received more than 400 reports of the case, but there was nothing to suggest that Jayme could be suspicious.

"We want to bring Jayme home. This is essential, "he said.

Fitzgerald was unable to confirm whether the locks on the front door of the Closs house had been destroyed by a gunshot.

"This is part of the investigation," Fitzgerald said.

When asked if the authorities thought the murders were random or were part of a targeted attack, Fitzgerald replied, "No, I would like to be closer to that question … I do not know this answer. "

Members of Jayme's research team use drones and infrared to conduct research in and around Barron County, but there is no evidence that it has been found.

"We did a lot of research in the immediate vicinity of the house," Fitzgerald said. "But there was no other search in any area because we have never seen any confirmed sightings."
