Mississippi: 2 Officers Killed in Brookhaven Shooting

Officers, identified as Cape Town. Zack Mock, 31, and 35-year-old policeman James White, responding to gunfire call around 5 am, said Mississippi investigative bureau spokesman Warren Strain.

"Two heroes lost their lives this morning," said Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins. "They are in the presence of Jesus at this time … (…) I want families to know that we will continue to do what we do in the name of Jesus."

The suspect, Marquis Aaron Flowers, 25, of Brookhaven, was wounded in a shootout with the officers and taken to a Jackson hospital, Strain said. It is about 55 miles north of Brookhaven, a small town in Interstate 55 in Lincoln County.

The officers were declared dead at the King & Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, he said.
